"Este volumen de poesías que presentamos es un amplio recorrido por el Mediterráneo, su cultura y su historia, un trabajo con un hilo narrativo claro y con un orden que resulta muy atrayente al lector. Según deja constancia el propio autor en su prólogo: «Durante nueve años he trabajado en esta epopeya sobre el Mediterráneo. Pretendía oponer la cultura y la vida latinas (una vida remansada, sabia, sensual y contemplativa) a la cultura y la vida anglosajonas que hoy pretenden imponernos en todos los ámbitos. Siempre había soñado con realizar un viaje a pie o en bicicleta que durase meses y meses, bordeando todo nuestro mar antiguo, pero claro: mi trabajo y la falta demedios me lo impedían. Ya no existen mecenas que financien proyectos de esta laya. Tuve, pues, que llevar a cabo el viaje mediante la inventiva. Se trataba de escribir un libro a la manera de la Ilíada, la Odisea, la Eneida o la Divina Comedia, pero en el mismo, el protagonista no sería un héroe ni un alma en busca de Dios, sino el propio mar.»
