Was heute Sportgerat und Spielzeug ist, war vor gut 100 Jahren unentbehrliches Arbeitsgerat fur Wissenschaftler: Meteorologen brachten mit Hilfe von Drachen ihre Messgerate in grossere Hohen und haben bei diesen Aufstiegen Wetterdaten gesammelt, aus denen Aufschluss uber das kommende Wetter gewonnen werden konnte.Fur diesen Zweck sind viel bemerkenswerte Drachen gebaut und taglich geflogen worden. So hat am 1. August 1919 ein Gespann von funf Drachen vom "Aeronautischen Observatorium Lindenberg" die Hohe von sage und schreibe 9 740 Meter erreicht: das war - und ist heute noch Weltrekord.Die Weltrekorddrachen und mit ihnen noch zwolf andere Drachen aus Australien, Deutschland, England, Frankreich, Russland und USA werden auf den 168 Seiten des Buches "Drachen mit Geschichte" vorgestellt. 118 Fotos, 169 Zeichnungen und die ausfuhrlichen Schritt-fur-Schritt-Anweisungen ermoglichen es, diese historischen Drachen nachzubauen.Das Buch, vor zwolf Jahren zum ersten Mal erschienen und hier in einer bearbeiteten Fassung neu aufgelegt, war und ist die weltweit umfangreichste Sammlung von Bauanleitungen fur die Rekonstruktion von Drachen, die Geschichte gemacht haben.Die beiden Autoren sind schon mit anderen originalgetreuen Nachbauten und vielen Veroffentlichungen uber die Drachengeschichte hervorgetreten
